Cruz Bay Landing, St. John USVI

Earlier this month, my family and I were fortunate enough to be in the US Virgin Islands on an island called St. John. St. John is the smallest of the three US Virgin Islands, with two thirds of the island being a National park. It is such an amazing place to visit! There’s no airport on St. John, so you have to take a ferry from St. Thomas to get there. Once you pull into the ferry dock at Cruz Bay, just a short walk across the street from the dock and you will find yourself at a wonderful restaurant, Cruz Bay Landing. This restaurant has amazing food, cocktails, and very friendly staff. My family and I went there for breakfast and it was delicious!

We have a favorite breakfast restaurant in our hometown (Livermore, CA) called The Riata Diner & Tavern that we visit pretty frequently. We love to start breakfast with a Breakfast Shot and a Bloody Mary. Riata is the only restaurant that I’ve been in to that serves Breakfast Shots, so imagine my surprise when we start to look at the menu at Cruz Bay Landing and discover that they, in fact, have the Breakfast Shot, made just like the one from our favorite hometown restaurant! The Breakfast Shot consists of a shot glass with half Jameson Irish Whiskey and half Butterscotch Schnapps, served with an orange juice chaser and a piece of crisp bacon. You shoot the shot, chase it with the orange juice, and then eat the bacon. If you ever get the chance, I suggest you try it–it’s delicious. At Cruz Bay Landing, after our Breakfast Shots and Bloody Mary’s were ordered, we decided to try the Landing Skillet, which was two eggs any way over home fries with sauteed peppers, mushrooms, onions, and jack cheese, topped with guacamole, salsa and sour cream. This was absolutely delicious and definitely big enough to share. In fact, my wife and I shared this and STILL had leftovers which were just as great the following day! Cruz Bay Landing has a great menu with lots of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So next time you are traveling to St. John, we definitely recommend giving this place a try. Enjoy!
