Ginger Lemon Drop Martini

Here at Sylva’s Kitchen, we like to post a blog about a special cocktail every Friday. It’s a welcoming, of sorts, to the weekend. Fridays are a day to pour yourself the perfect cocktail, hangout with friends, kick back and relax, and breathe a sigh of relief. I have the perfect cocktail for you. It’s a twist on one of my favorite cocktails—a lemon drop martini. The lemon drop was invented in the 1970’s at a bar in San Francisco named Henry Africa’s and is now on the cocktail menus of many restaurants and bars.  My twist is making it a ginger lemon drop martini. You get the refreshing burst of lemon with a tongue tantalizing tingle from the ginger liqueur. I prefer to use Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur. Domaine de Canton Ginger is a liqueur with a brandy base made in France since 2007, with an earlier version being made in China. This liqueur goes so well with lemon.

A martini is so simple to make and so delicious. Start by adding your favorite brand of vodka (I like to use Skyy Vodka, but any brand will work.  It’s all about what you like!). Then, add fresh squeezed lemon juice, a splash of the Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur, and a little simple syrup to a shaker with crushed ice and then shake. Strain into a sugar rimmed, well-chilled martini glass, garnish with a lemon twist, and enjoy!
