What’s better than a delicious cocktail on a Friday evening to help you unwind from a grueling work week or a hectic week of getting the kids to school, attending extra-curricular activities, helping with homework, or fighting over bath and bedtime? Or maybe you live a life of ease and tranquility, but still enjoy a cocktail to finish out the evening. So there are limitless choices of drinks to choose from, but I’m going to stick with this week’s island theme and talk about a great rum cocktail called the Blue Hawaii. I really enjoy a rum cocktail, now and then, and this one is especially refreshing after I’ve had a long week and want to enjoy the island lifestyle (even at home in California). The Blue Hawaii is also one of my go-to drinks when we go on our annual trip to the islands.
The Blue Hawaii was invented in 1957 by Harry Yee, the head bartender at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Hawaii. You can’t get much more tropical than that! It’s a perfect island-style cocktail to enjoy, wherever you are, by combining good helpings of vodka, rum, blue curaçao, pineapple juice, and sweet and sour. Blue Curaçao is a Caribbean orange-flavored liqueur that is an unexpectedly vibrant blue color. Not only is blue curaçao delicious, it makes the Blue Hawaii absolutely beautiful! This drink combines best of tropical flavors—pineapple and orange! So, next time you want to find yourself in the island mood on a Friday evening, try this one. I’m sure you will love the incredible flavor. Enjoy!
